Slit Drum Summons to Book World Prague’s Opening
The 25th annual international book fair and literary festival Book World Prague commenced with exotic rhythms from the TamTam Batucada drum orchestra. The instruments' rumbling sounds were an unmistakeable reminder that this year's guests of honour have come to the Holešovice Exhibition Grounds from Latin American countries.
At the opening ceremony, hosted by journalist Petr Vizina, they were represented by some highly distinguished guests, including Mexico's ambassador, Her Excellency Mrs. Leonora Rueda, Her Excellency Mrs. Liliana Torres de Muga on behalf of Peru, His Excellency Mr. Roberto Salafia from Argentina, His Excellency the Ambassador Marcio Florencio Nunes Cambraia from Brazil, Mr. Ramón Feliz Peňa, the Consul General of the Dominican Republic, His Excellency the Ambassador of Chile, Mr. Patricio Pradel, and from Cuba, His Excellency Mr. Damilo Alonso Mederos.
Besides literature, guests from Latin America have also brought music to Book World Prague. The pleasant and joyful atmosphere surrounding the opening of the Latin American display included instrumental music, singing and even a bit of dancing.
